Here is an opportunity for all those students fed on 24-hour television channels dedicated exclusively to wildlife to test their in-depth knowledge about the animal kingdom.
A slew of competitions have been lined up for school and college students in connection with the wildlife week being organised by the State forest department from October 2 to October 8. The contests are aimed at propagating the message of wildlife conservation and to create awareness about it in society.
The district-level competitions will be held on October 2 and October 3.
Students of lower primary and upper primary schools can give shape to their imagination in the pencil drawing and water colour painting competitions.
High school and college students can participate in quiz, essay, elocution, pencil drawing, and water colour painting competitions. The competitions are open to students of all government, aided, recognised self-financing schools and colleges, and professional colleges. Participants should present a certificate — complete with their name, class, event of choice — issued by the authorities concerned of their respective schools or colleges.
Plus one, plus two, and vocational higher secondary students are eligible to participate in the college category. Though all teams should be made up of two participants, students are allowed to go it alone and represent their school or college.
All the contests will be conducted in Malayalam. The winner and the first and second runners-up in each event will receive cash prizes and certificates.
The works of the winners of essay, pencil drawing, and water colour painting competitions held at the district-level will be sent in as nominations for selecting the State-level winners.
Winners of the other contests held at the district-level will be eligible to compete in the State-level contests.
Food and ordinary sleeper class travel will be arranged for the students selected to take part in the State-level contests.
