Over 300 students of the B.Tech final year batch at the Cochin University of Science and Technology have received job offers from leading companies through campus recruitment.
According to official estimates, nearly 70 per cent of the students, including those at the School of Engineering at Thrikkakara and Cochin University College of Engineering at Pulinkunnu have received offers from companies.
The who-is-who of the Indian industry that visited the campuses include Reliance Petroleum, L&T, Punj Llyod, Tata Consultancy Services, Infosys, Oil and Natural Gas Corporation, HCL, GAIL India Ltd., Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd., Jindal Steel, Indian Oil Corporation Ltd., Bank of Baroda, and Telcon. Nearly 218 students of the School of Engineering on the Thrikkakara campus, who did not have any supplementary examinations to clear, have received placements. The Division of Safety and Fire Engineering earned appreciation for registering 100 per cent placement this year. Information Technology and Computer Science divisions followed, with the majority of the students getting job offers.
Students said that the highest annual salary offered was around Rs. 10.5 lakh while the entry level salary was around Rs. 3 lakh. Over 80 students at the Cochin University College of Engineering on the Pulinkunnu campus have received campus placement offers. Students of the Computer Science division received the highest number of offers.
The university authorities said that students who have successfully passed out of the Kunjali Maraikkar School of Marine Engineering have received placements. The recruiting companies include the Mediterranean Shipping Company, American Resident Lines and Orient Express Ship Management company.
About 63 per cent of the students who have passed out of the Department of Polymer Science and Rubber Technology have received job offers. Nearly 75 per cent students of the Naval Architecture and Ship Building programme offered by the Department of Ship Technology have also got campus placement. Nearly 17 students of the B.Tech Instrumentation programme also got job offers from companies.
Meanwhile, Cusat said in a communication that applicants seeking admission to its B. Tech courses for the 2010-11 academic period should register their option online at the university website www.cusat.nic. Online registration of the option would be active from 5 p.m. on Monday.
