Women, irrespective of their age, can now get to know the basics of self-defence during a four-day training programme, which commences on Monday at the Regional Sports Centre at the Rajiv Gandhi Indoor Stadium at Kadavanthra.
The training programme will be part of an awareness build-up on the “art of self-defence”, according Mettle Tomy, an office-bearer of Women Self Defence Aid India, which is organising the event.
“Mock fights and motivational speeches will be part of the programme, which will help women empower themselves. The organisation has already imparted training to more than a hundred women, but the idea is to spread the message that women at all levels need to know the basics of self-defence, given the social milieu,” Mr. Tomy said.
The event will be held on the sidelines of the 22 National Kickboxing Championship 2016 which will be held at the Regional Sports Centre. The four-day programme will be offered free of cost, and anyone can visit the sports centre to participate. Ernakulam MLA Hibi Eden will inaugurate the programme at 6 p.m. on Monday. The organisation will be conducting more training programmes after the Onam season. Help is being sought from local bodies for providing venues. Further details can be had by calling 9846752326.
