The South India Gulf Express service between India and the Middle East made its maiden call at the International Container Transshipment Terminal here on Monday.
The service, run by Evergreen Shipping Line and Simatech, is the latest service to the Middle East from South India, said a statement issued by DP World, operator of the terminal here.
The port rotation for the new service is Kochi – Colombo – Jebel Ali – Kochi, said the press release. It will take eight days to and from Kochi for the service, which is a weekly one with a call at Kochi every Monday, the press release added.
The first vessel of the new service M. V. Sea Bright berthed at the ICTT at 8.30 a.m. and the vessel had an exchange of 434 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), the press release added.
A function was organised to welcome the vessel at Kochi. Lin Shen-Chia, president; Captain Chen-Da Kun, junior vice-president and P. Chandramohan, junior vice-president along with Cochin Port Trust chairman Paul Antony were present at the function.
