Members of ‘We Can Make A Change’, a voluntary organisation founded by a software engineer, who set an example by taking up beautification of RTC bus station and Sulabh complex recently in Sircilla textile town, have now emerged role models for redesigning the anganwadi centre in Jillela village of Thangallapalli mandal.
The young volunteers have transformed the traditional centre into a state-of-the art Montessori classroom on par with corporate schools. Infusing life into the old building, they have added colour, literally, to the premises through paintings of animals, numbers, alphabet, rhymes apart from providing playing items, ensuring modern washrooms with running water facilities, a kitchen garden and landscaping. To make all this happen, they spent ₹1.7 lakh out of their own pockets.
Collector D. Krishna Bhaskar inaugurated the redesigned anganwadi centre on Monday and appeared spellbound on witnessing the transformation that would attract kids to school daily and promote joyful learning. He planted saplings on the premises and distributed slates among students.
Congratulating Karthik, the founder of the voluntary organisation, and his friends for their efforts, Mr. Bhaskar instructed District Welfare Officer Saraswathi to seek help of the volunteers in transforming 10 other anganwadi centres in the district.
CESS chairman Laxma Reddy, Women and Child welfare regional coordinator Rena, MPP Srilatha and DPRO Dasaratham were also present.
