An Intermediate second year student, Bhavana, 18, died while her sister, Vaishnavi, 20, and mother Kavitha, 42, were battling for life after they set themselves ablaze in their house at Karkhana on Friday. The two women who suffered nearly 90 per cent burns, were admitted to Gandhi Hospital. Kavitha’s husband, Dinesh Mundada, who owns a silver ornaments shop and lives with his family at A.P. Textbook Colony in Karkhana, was in the bathroom when the three women doused themselves in petrol and set themselves afire around 8.30 a.m.

While Bhavana succumbed to her burns, the condition of the other two women was critical, said Karkhana Inspector Y. Nageshwar Rao. The reasons for the three women resorting to the extreme step were being investigated, he said.
