Terming it a reasonable hike, the Hyderabad Metro Water Supply & Sewerage Board on Thursday increased the rates of water tankers. A press release said the move was necessitated by persistent requests from the Water Tanker Owners Associations to revise the rates saying the last time it was increased was in 2011.

The association said the current rates did not reflect the inflation in components such as fuel, lubricants, salaries, repairs and maintenance and the steep hike in insurance, RTA fitness, motor vehicle taxes and the like. After due deliberations, the board conceded the demands favourable and revised the rates as under, said a press release.

The increased rates shall come into effect on September 1. The release notified consumers of the hike and said the revision would not affect the common man as water supplied through the tankers was only a minuscule percentage of the total supply that has been improved after the Krishna and Godavari augmentation phases.
