Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has directed the Revenue department to accord top priority to rectification, cleansing and updating land records in the next three months to ensure that lands, particularly those owned by farmers, were free of any litigation.
There were several litigations and disputes relating to lands as the records were not maintained properly over a period of time.
The pre-occupation of the Revenue officials with other welfare and development works had resulted in neglecting the maintenance of land records, considered the prime duty of the department, the Chief Minister said exhorting the Collectors, Joint Collectors, RDOs, MROs and other officials to exclusively focus on cleansing the records.
The government had noticed the mismatch in the details provided by the Revenue and Agriculture Departments over the ownership of the lands after announcing its resolve to provide ₹ 8,000 per acre input assistance to farmers for two crops a year.
“The onus is on the administration to find out the extent of land owned by farmers,” he said. The Chief Minister was addressing the participants of an extended meeting of district Collectors and other revenue officials organised here on Thursday.
He said the officials should focus on preparing the database and records of close to 95% which were litigation-free in the first phase. Towards this end, they should interact with residents of villages in general and farmers in particular for getting clarity on the ownership rights of the land.
