Two data entry operators of GHMC, who allegedly made lakhs of rupees by fraudulently mutating ownership of nearly 2,000 properties, were arrested by city police on Wednesday.
Along with the accused, B. Polaiah and M. Lakhan Singh, the police also arrested a resident of Somajiguda, Khaja Qutubuddin, who got his neighbour's property changed onto his name with their help, was also arrested. Another accused Jagadish was still at large, the Hyderabad Central Crime Station DCP Avinash Mohanty said.
Mohammed Abbas had recently sold part of his open plot to neighbour Qutubuddin. He went to the GHMC office for transferring property ownership but found that it was already done and that too without his knowledge.
He approached the CCS officials who found that the mutation was done online. During further investigation, it was found that Polaiah, who was transferred from Mutation section to Fire Prevention wing, transferred the property onto Qutubuddin name by using a login id which was defunct.
He got names of nearly 2,000 properties of different persons changed. Lakhan Singh would bring persons (buyers of properties) to Polaiah and get the properties transferred online.
