A seven-year-old boy and a 20-year-old student drowned in swimming pools at separate farmhouses on the city outskirts on Sunday.

In the first case, J. Prasanna Babu (07) from Hayathnagar was on a family get-together when the incident took place at a private farmhouse in Gandipet village.

The Narsingi police said Prasanna went to the farmhouse along with his parents and other family members. Between noon and 2 p.m. he entered the water and drowned, said inspector GV Ramana Goud.

Reportedly, the boy’s parents did not notice him entering the pool. “A case will be registered only after a complaint is lodged. Till now, the victim’s parents have not approached us,” he said.

Mr Goud said the family rented the farmhouse for a day and were organising a get-together. The boy was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead.

In the second case, a 20-year-old student from Bahadurpura drowned in a swimming pool at Tolkatta village in Moinabad mandal.

The victim identified as Mohammed Shoyab Khan went to Oasis farmhouse in the village with his parents and other family members on a picnic.

“Around 11 a.m., Shoyad, who didn’t know swimming, entered the pool with his cousin, when his family members were preparing food, and drowned. He was rushed to a private hospital, where he was declared dead,” said Rajendra Nagar ACP K Ashok Chakravarthy.

The pool was sealed by the police and a case was registered against the management of the farmhouse.
