Telangana, AP asked to identify land for institutions

The Ministry of Human Resources, Department of Higher Education has asked the Telangana and Andhra Pradesh governments to identify and physical infrastructure for starting courses in the Central institutions allotted to the two states.

The Centre has decided to establish seven institutions of higher learning, including an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) and an Institute of Management (IIM) in Andhra Pradesh and a tribal university in Telangana.

The other institutions coming up in Andhra Pradesh are: Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), National Institute of Technology (NIT), Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), Central university and a tribal university. This is in accordance with the 13 Schedule of Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014.

It said the admission process in IIMs, IITs, NITs and IISERs are mostly over and therefore admission in the current academic session is not possible. The academic session can start after the approval of the Expenditure Finance Committee and Cabinet approval for the establishment of each institution.

In the Union Budget, 2014-15, a token provision of Rs.1 crore for each institution has been made for starting of preliminary activities like the preparation of detailed project.
