Recent agitations and pro-Telangana sentiment did not deter students from other parts of the State when it came to education. Large number of students who took the entrance test conducted for admission into IIT coaching institute of Chukka Ramaiah, MLC, was an indication of that.

The test was held in several colleges in the Osmania University campus apart from a few colleges in other parts of the city on Sunday. Students accompanied by parents came in large numbers. The institute has the reputation of sending more than 90 per cent of its students to IITs every year. “Distance doesn't matter when it comes to good education. More so when it comes to Ramaiah's institute,” said Radhakishan Rao, guardian of an aspirant from Guntur.

Several students from neighbouring States also took the examination and they believe entry into Mr. Ramaiah's institute is almost like a passport for admission into the IITs. Parents felt that the success of Mr. Ramaiah's students in IIT-JEE has made parents across the State ambitious. “Success of State's students at the IIT-JEE every year is actually infusing confidence among rural and semi-urban parents,” some parents said.

Mr. Ramaiah said that students from Haryana, Tamil Nadu, Orissa and Maharashtra appeared for the test.

He agreed that the agitations did not deter students from coastal Andhra region to take the test. He said several parents requested him to start a hostel for the admitted students as they were finding it difficult to move with the students. He promised that it will be looked into as good facilities have to be provided. The results are likely to be declared around May 20.
