A search was constituted by the governing council of the Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) here on Tuesday for selection of a new Director to succeed the incumbent Dr. D. Prasada Rao whose tenure will come to an end on September 29.
The search committee will be headed by Minister for Medical Education D. Sudarshan Reddy and comprise former Dean of NIMS Dr. V. Shantaram and Vice-Chancellor of NTR University of Health Sciences Dr. I. V. Rao as members.
This was decided at the 13th meeting of the council which was chaired by Chief Minister K. Rosaiah at his residence.
It further resolved to appoint an expert committee with eminent persons to decide about running NIMS University coming up at Rangapur village of Bibinagar mandal in Nalgonda district. Construction of roads, storm water drains, parking area, flooring, framework for electrical sub-station and sump on the 161-acre campus were almost completed.
Academic programmes like nursing, paramedical and hospital management courses, post graduate diploma and Ph. D courses being offered by the university, functioning of NIMS Hospital and its development were also discussed in detail.
The NIMS Director explained to the Chief Minister on various aspects of NIMS' functioning.
Issues like operationalisation of Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY) blocks and others were also reviewed during the meeting.
Minister Sudarshan Reddy, Special Chief Secretary of Health J. Satyanarayana, Special Chief Secretary of Finance G. Sudhir, and members of the governing council attended.
