State Bank of Hyderabad (SBH) has come forward to help Mubina Begum, the hapless woman whose child was ill, as reported in the news story “A mother begs for her child’s life” in these columns on Wednesday.

The bank’s top officials have roped in Innova Hospitals for treatment of the child who is now kept under observation in the paediatric care unit of the hospital’s Tarnaka facility. Accommodation has been provided for the mother and her two other children as well within the hospital premises.

Offering medical services to poor and underprivileged children has been part of the Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives by the SBH for which the banking giant has tied up with Innova Hospitals, officials from SBH informed.

There has been overwhelming response to the news report, and calls from philanthropists, concerned citizens and NGOs kept pouring in throughout the day at The Hindu office in addition to a spate of offers to help on The Hindu’s website (www.thehindu.com).

At least 20 persons intending to help the mother, reportedly visited the spot where she was staying before she was picked up by the SBH team and shifted to the hospital.
