A DCM van carrying a consignment of cigarette cartons caught fire at Bowenpally on Wednesday. Though there was no loss of human life, property of about Rs.50 lakh was gutted, the police said.

The van coming from Toopran in Medak district was going towards a godown in Secunderabad when the driver noticed sparks from the engine and immediately stopped it on the roadside at Bowenpally. As inflammable material was kept in the vehicle, the fire spread rapidly and gutted the van, the police said.
