The scene of the fire accident at Kalapathar in Old City on Sunday.

Fire broke out at a house in Kalapathar on Sunday afternoon damaging property worth about Rs. 5 lakh. However, no one was injured in the accident.

According to the fire officials, the inmates went out on some work after locking the house when suddenly flames erupted from the first floor of the building. The fire spread rapidly gutting down the furniture and belongings kept in the house.

The house owner Ismail had rented out the first floor to Sajid who stayed with his family.

A fire tender from Chandulal Baradari fire station rushed to the house and doused the fire. Fire personnel and policemen had a miraculous escape when a gas cylinder kept in the house exploded due to the heat causing damage to the building. Fire officials suspect electrical short-circuit to be the cause of accident.
