Investigators probing the death of the research scholar from Jammu and Kashmir, Mudasir Kamran, confirmed that he committed suicide in his hostel room in the English and Foreign Languages University (Eflu) due to personal differences with his roommate Vasim Salim.
Twenty-nine-year-old Kamran belonged to Parigam village of Pulwama district.
“They were roommates and good friends but subsequently fell out and developed animosity,” a release from the City Police Commissioner's office said on Sunday.
Vasim’s complaint
Vasim had complained to the varsity authorities about repeated physical and mental harassment being meted to him by Kamran. In January last, Eflu professor Vizra gave a memo to Kamran.
Three days ago, Prof. Vizra rang up the OU police and informed that Kamran and Salim were quarrelling after which a police patrol vehicle brought them to the police station. Chief Warden Vedasharan also accompanied them.
Sub-inspector Madhusudhan Reddy counselled the two students. They were taken back to the campus by Vedasharan.
On Saturday, Kamran’s room was found bolted from inside and he was found hanging . He was immediately shifted to Andhra Mahila Sabha Hospital where he was declared brought dead.
Police registered a case under Section 306 (abetment of suicide) of IPC and took up investigation. Autopsy was performed and the body is being sent to Kamran’s village.
Senior police officers, including Director General of Police, Law and Order, S.A. Huda, City Commissioner of Police Anurag Sharma discussed the matter with university authorities.
