A research scholar from Jammu and Kashmir, Mudassar, committed suicide by hanging in his hostel room on the campus of English and Foreign Languages University near Tarnaka on Saturday, the police said.

Reasons behind his death are not yet known. No suicide note was found in his room, the Osmania University Inspector P. Ashok said. The scholar, in his late 20s, was found hanging to the ceiling in the night.

He was initially rushed to a nearby hospital. Students of the EFLU brought his body back to the university campus and staged demonstration alleging that the authorities didn’t respond properly to the student’s death.

Tension prevailed at the campus as large number of students gathered there and demanded that the government take action against the responsible university authorities. The EFLU Registrar reached the campus and was discussing with the agitating students when reports last came in.
