The Bharatiya Janata Party and Telugu Desam Party Telangana State units decided to follow effective floor coordination in the upcoming Legislature session, starting Friday, to corner the government on crucial issues of public importance even as TDP MLA A. Revanth Reddy, who was stripped of his twin posts by the party leadership, did not attend the meeting.

Mr. Revanth Reddy had convened a meeting of the TDP-TS legislature party on Thursday, but kept himself away following the party leadership’s reported decision to remove him as the party’s working president and the Floor leader in the Assembly. Sources close to Mr. Revanth Reddy said no formal invitation was extended to Mr. Reddy to attend the meeting. “There was an SMS from an unidentified number stating that there is a meeting with the BJP and no other communication,” a leader close to Mr. Reddy said.

TDP-TS president L. Ramana and party MLA S. Venkata Veeraiah along with senior leaders attended the floor coordination meeting with the BJP at a star hotel on Thursday afternoon. The two parties identified several issues including the unfulfilled promises of the TRS like three-acre land to each Dalit family, KG to PG free education and fee reimbursement. Though work on some promises like the double bedroom houses to weaker sections and irrigation projects were launched, there were several lapses in their implementation. The two parties have therefore resolved to ensure effective floor coordination in raising these issues and exposing the failures of the government in implementing the schemes in the larger interests of the people. BJP Floor leader G. Kishan Reddy said there was no difference between the functioning of the previous Congress government and the present dispensation headed by the TRS.

The two parties had decided to do their home work on issues where the government had failed to live up to the expectations so that the message would effectively reach the people through the session. The government’s failure to come to the rescue of the farmers whose crops suffered damages during the recent heavy rains, failure to rope in eligible beneficiaries under the loan waiver scheme, absence of mechanism to ensure payment of minimum support price to farmers were, among other issues, identified by the two parties that would be raised in the session.
