In view of the upcoming Global Entrepreneurship Summit 2017, the GHMC has sanctioned road maintenance work at 101 locations in 12 divisions at a cost of about ₹46 crore. Majority of the work at about ₹20 crore has been sanctioned for Serilingampally division in the West Zone where HICC, the venue of the summit, is located.

So far, only two works worth ₹30 lakh have been completed in Ramanthapur division, while 46 works worth nearly ₹26 crore are in progress. Tender process is still on for 16 works at a cost of ₹7.54 crore, while 37 tenders more worth ₹12.25 crore are under consideration.

While majority of the task is about repairs, milling and re-carpeting are in progress at a couple of stretches in Jubilee Hills and Serilingampally, officials said. There were no takers for the base price quoted by GHMC for a few stretches. Even after three calls, the works could not be awarded.

November 15 has been fixed as the deadline for completion of works. GHMC Commissioner B. Janardhan Reddy has been monitoring the works on a daily basis.

Tourist destinations in the city are also getting a face-lift thanks to the summit. The stretches will also be improved by re-painting the medians and undertaking beautification work. The corporation has reportedly sought funds to the tune of ₹61 lakh for the works, as the road stretches being serviced were handed over to the Hyderabad Road Development Corporation Limited. However, GHMC has been asked to spruce up the roads as HRDCL lacked necessary infrastructure and resources.

Meanwhile the GHMC has identified close to 8 lakh sqm. of road stretches requiring repairs.
