In less than 24-hours after a gang robbed a businessman of Rs.12 lakh, the Sultan Bazaar police apprehended five persons for the crime and recovered Rs.10.70 lakh from them. It was found that the plan to rob the victim, Divyesh Hadiya, was hatched by a worker whom he used to employ temporarily when his workers were absent. Two of the accused are also still absconding. According to the Deputy Commissioner of Police, East Zone, the five accused were apprehended from one of their houses at Balapur on Sunday at 12 noon, where they had fled to after robbing Mr. Hadiya in front of Aditya Hospital in Abids. While the cops arrested Ashish Singh, Jagadish Singh, Mohd. Ameer, Raja Misra and Mohd. Habeeb, the two who are yet to be picked up are Mallikarjun and Asif.

The accused were all found at Mallikarjun’s house in Balapur. The plan to rob Mr. Hadiya was the idea of Jagadish, who used to work in a shop named, Jain Tyres, opposite the victim’s shop. He would be called to work for Mr. Hadiya whenever the latter’s workers were absent. On Saturday, Jagadish, while working for him, noticed huge transactions, and hence hatched a plan to rob the businessman, who owns Rajdhani Tyres at Siddiamber Bazaar.

While the plan was Jagadish’s, he was however not involved in executing the robbery. To commit the crime, he had sought the help of his friend Ashish, who in turn roped in Mallikarjun and others. Prior to this, they had all tried to rob Mr. Hadiya on June 11, but their attempt failed. On Saturday night, all of them, except Jagadish, gathered at the Grand Hotel, Abids at about 7 p.m., and were waiting for Mr. Hadiya to arrive.

After they spotted him, Mr. Hadiya was followed from Abids on three vehicles. At about 8 p.m., near Aditya hospital, Mallkarjun crossed and hit the victim’s vehicle due to which both of them fell down. Making use of the opportunity, Raja Mishra, who was riding a Yamaha R-15 bike, hit Mr. Hadiya on his back and took his bag containing Rs.12 lakh. All six of them then sped away on their vehicles towards Ramkoti.

The six accused then went to Mallikarjun’s house at Balapur and slept. Jagadish went there at 10 a.m. and distributed the money. Soon after, the cops raided the house and arrested five of them.
