The police arrested two persons for robbing and attempting to kill a journalist at the latter’s house in Rajendranagar during early hours of Tuesday.

According to the police, the accused P. Nagaraju and K. Mallesh, had hatched a plan to rob the journalist, who lives alone and also kill him to take over the latter’s assets. Nagaraju worked in the victim’s house as domestic help and knew about his employer’s wealth.

As per their plan, Nagaraju had allowed his friend Mallesh to hide in the victim’s house late on Monday. He then switched off the power supply after midnight.

The victim woke up at around 2 a.m. on Tuesday to check the power supply. As he turned on the supply, Mallesh, who is unknown to the victim, assaulted him with a spade. He forced him to give up gold and silver articles valued at ₹1.3 lakh and also extracted cheques worth ₹4.5 lakh.

Mallesh also caused head injuries to the victim in his attempt to fatally injure him. The police traced Nagaraju on Tuesday, who in turn led them to Mallesh and nabbed the duo.
