Personnel of the Central Crime Station (CCS), Madhapur on Friday arrested a notorious offender who specialised in breaking into locked houses, Ganshyam Balveer Singh alias Ballu (23) of Badichowdi and his associate Sagar Londhe (21), a student and resident of Chappal Bazar in Kachiguda.

A press release said Ballu was a repeat offender allegedly involved in seven offences between this April and June because he was addicted to a lavish lifestyle. Sagar Londhe was allegedly involved in a grave offence in Kukatpally police limits because of his financial problems.

Gold ornaments weighing 705 grams, a laptop, US $ 600, a camera and two-wheelers, all worth Rs. 23 lakh were recovered from the accused duo. Ballu was said to have used either of his two-wheelers to do a recce of locked apartments after entering the complex on some pretext or the other. He would then come back, break into the dwellings and depart with the booty. On Friday morning, acting on a tip-off, Deputy Inspector - Kukatpally, Balakrishna and Sub-Inspectors of CCS, B. Chaitanya Kumar and B. Vijay Naik and others caught the accused at Nizampet crossroads. A check of their fingerprints with a live scanner matched those at different scenes of offences.

The Cyberabad Commissioner reiterated his appeal to residents, asking them to install closed-circuit cameras around their dwellings and engage the services of active and alert watchmen who could help the police in preventing property offences.
