Telugu Desam Party president and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has summoned the party’s Telangana leaders to Vijayawada in a bid to resolve the crisis that surfaced after the leaders made divergent views on the likely alliances in Telangana in the next elections.
The TDP president is understood to have taken a serious view of the developments over the past few days that resulted in removing party MLA A. Revanth Reddy from the posts of the working president and legislature party leader.
Mr. Naidu convened a meeting of the party’s central committee and politburo members of Telangana here on Friday.
Party leaders led by TDP-TS president L. Ramana reached the venue on time, but Mr. Revanth Reddy and another MLA S. Venkata Veeraiah arrived late on account of the ongoing Assembly session.
Mr. Ramana and other leaders were learnt to have briefed Mr. Naidu about the developments, including Mr. Revanth Reddy’s reported meeting with Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi and subsequent developments.
Floor coordination
He explained to Mr. Naidu the circumstances that led to cancellation of the legislature party meeting convened by Mr. Revanth Reddy as also the meeting with the BJP for effective floor coordination between the two parties.
Since the developments were likely to cause major damage to the party’s image, a report was sent to Mr. Naidu seeking his approval for stripping Mr. Revanth Reddy of his posts, Mr. Ramana said.
The TDP president, however, told the leaders that he would take a decision after eliciting the views of the other side too.
In the meantime, the party leaders should stay united and refrain from making any statements in public domain.
Though Mr. Naidu had initially contemplated to resolve the impasse during his next visit to the city on November 2, he had summoned the party leaders to Vijayawada as any delay in announcing his stand could cause further harm to the party’s image.
