Three policemen were among five injured when a 55-year-old man, reported to be mentally ill, went on a spree of stabbings at Chaderghat on Tuesday night. Esa Miya entered into an argument with his neighbours over a trivial issue, after which he attacked two locals – Shiva and Bhaskar – with a knife.

Chaderghat police rushed a team to the spot on receipt of information. While trying to bring Esa to the station, the latter attacked Sub Inspector Mahesh, Home Guard Naik and Constable Perraiah, Chaderghat Inspector, L. Raja Venkata said. He was later overpowered.

Police later registered case under IPC Section 307 and various sections of the Arms Act before producing the accused before a court. He was remanded to judicial custody.

A 50 year-old-man was found murdered at Ghatkesar on Wednesday morning. The deceased, B. Anjaneuyulu, a member of Pochampally Handlooms Cooperative Society, had gone out of his house on some work on Tuesday night but did not return, police said.

On Wednesday, his body was found some 50 feet away from the Outer Ring Road (ORR) at Ghatkesar by some passersby, who informed the police. A dog squad and clues team were pressed into service to gather leads. Police suspect personal rivalry as reason behind the killing.
