Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao on Friday called for a 10-year action plan and a 30-year perspective plan for improving the civic infrastructure in the twin cities including constructing two water reservoirs, sewerage network, flood canals, power supply, sanitation, transport, markets, toilets, greenery etc.
Mr. Rao held a marathon meeting with top civic officials and cabinet ministers K.T. Rama Rao and T. Harish Rao at his camp office where he asked them to focus on toning up the civic amenities in the capital and other urban areas across Telangana in view of the migration and the need to cater to the increase in population.
He pointed out that the power issue was successfully tackled and irrigation projects were under way to ensure adequate water to the farm sector. “We have to now focus on giving better infrastructure to the people. Hyderabad has about one crore population. So the concentration should be more on the city,” he said, as per the official press release.
Key works discussed in the meeting were – filling up one of the two reservoirs proposed outside the city with water drawn from Kaleswaram and the Palamur Lift Irrigation schemes, to supply water through gravity and fill 10-15 tmc water in each reservoir, make use of the 7,000 acres forestland in Nagole and Narapalli, 16,000 acresoutside ORR, 40,000 acres at Narsapur and Sisampet. The Chief Minister said an IFS officer should be appointed at the office of the Municipal Administration Ministry to oversee and monitor greenery in the city. Basti committees should be formed. Industrial and other pollutants flow into water bodies should be checked and constructions should be as per sanctioned plans without deviations or officials concerned would be held responsible, he said. Musi River Development Plan, bridges across the river, gardens et al also came up during discussion. Roads and flyovers should be done as per the Strategic Road Development Plan (SRDP).
Chief Advisor Rajiv Sharma, Mayor Bonthu Rammohan, Deputy Mayor Fasiuddin, Special Chief Secretary S. K. Joshi, Principal Secretaries S. Narsing Rao, Ramakrishna, Navin Mittal, GHMC Commissioner Janardhan Reddy, HMDA Commissioner Chiranjeevulu, Water Works Commissioner Dana Kishore, PCCF Jha were present.
