Justice P.V. Sanjay Kumar of Hyderabad High Court on Monday stayed the arrest of BJP MLC N. Ramachander Rao in a case registered after the death of Rohit Vemula, research scholar in the University of Hyderabad in January. The police was permitted to continue investigation.

The judge was passing these interim orders in a writ petition filed by the MLC. He said that he came to know that Susheel Kumar was attacked by group of students after he protested the glorification of Yakub Memon, the terrorist who was hanged after a Supreme Court judgment. He visited the campus and met the university officials as a public representative, urging the university to restore order. He lamented that he is named as accused without any basis.
