The State government came in for severe criticism from Telangana Joint Action Committee (TJAC) and the opposition parties for its alleged “indifferent attitude” in keeping its promise of filling thousands of vacant posts in different departments.
Addressing a public meeting organised here on Monday, representatives of the TJAC and opposition parties charged the government with dilly-dallying on its commitment of providing jobs to unemployed youth, and said the government was hoodwinking the youth with false claims on the issue. Suicides by youth, including the latest one in the Osmania University, found its echo in the public meeting with the speakers criticising the government for its “wrong priorities” that were resulting in youth taking extreme steps.
The meeting Koluvulakai Kotlata (struggle for jobs) was organised by the TJAC even as the committee asserted that it would organise more such struggles in the coming days to mount pressure on the government to fulfil its assurances. It was attended, among others, by TJAC chairman M. Kodandaram, Congress deputy floor leader in the Assembly T. Jeevan Reddy, TDP State president L. Ramana, BJP’s N. Ramachandra Rao and CPI and CPI (M) State leaders, in addition to revolutionary balladeer Gaddar and educationalist Chukka Ramaiah.
The participants alleged that the government had imposed several restrictions on the youth arriving in the city to attend the meeting and many of them coming from the districts had been detained mid-way. The manner in which police were deployed in large numbers at the meeting venue as well as the approach roads to the city reflected the government’s attitude towards the frustration and unrest among unemployed youth.
