The city police have launched efforts to trace a two-year-old girl, Mounika, who was kidnapped by an unidentified man from Ghansi Bazaar near High Court on Wednesday morning.

The police examined video footage recorded by surveillance cameras installed in the vicinity which showed that an unidentified man was playing with the girl. “After playing with her for a while, the stranger took her away in an auto-rickshaw,” ACP Charminar K. Ashok Chakravarthi said.

Her parents, Vishnu and Parvathi, run a tea stall in front of the High Court. On Wednesday morning, the girl came along with her uncle, Bhaskar, who dropped her at the stall and left.

Her mother told the police that Mounika was sitting on the pavement, but went missing at around 11 a.m. while she was busy preparing tea. After searching for her, the family approached the Charminar police. Late in the night, the police traced the girl in Guntur district. A team left for the place to bring the girl and the alleged kidnapper Hanumanthu.
