A TV news channel reporter’s alleged attempt to extort money from a school management backfired on Monday, but brought to light an incident in which a class 10 student consumed poison after being admonished by her teacher for speaking on her mobile phone.
The 15-year-old student is recuperating in a private hospital and is out of danger. Her parents have not lodged any complaint against the teacher and neither did the school management against the TV channel reporter until Monday night.
Police said the girl was a student of Dilsukhnagar Public School in RK Puram and was taking tuition from her teacher, Kranti Kumar, at his house. The teacher, reportedly chided the girl for speaking on the phone continuously on November 27. The girl returned home, complained to her mother about it and then took some pesticide. She was shifted to a private hospital in Kothapet. Police had recorded her statement and started investigation, but did not publicise it. The girl is a close relative of Chiatanyapuri Inspector, Shivam.
On getting to know about it, a TV channel reporter allegedly approached the school management and demanded money from them for “not reporting” the matter. However, the school management refused to pay any money and suddenly the ‘issue’ got leaked to the electronic media.
The LB Nagar ACP J. Amarender Reddy was averse to give more details but said the matter was under investigation. No case has been registered against the teacher.
