A gang of dacoits from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, which looted lakhs of rupees worth copper, aluminium and brass from cable-making companies on Hyderabad outskirts and Orissa, was busted by the Cyberabad police on Friday.
A country-made revolver with three live rounds and knives were seized from the eight arrested persons, Shamshabad DCP K. Ramesh Naidu said at a press conference.
A patrolling party of the Narsingi police found some persons moving suspiciously in darkness late the previous night at Savariya Steel factory.
The suspects were taken to the police station.
During interrogation, the police found they were members of the dacoit gang that went on a spree of looting cable-making factories at Nacharam, Jeedimetla, Patancheru, Shamshabad and Cuttack in Orissa for nearly past two years.
The offenders would go to the factories in the dead of night. “They would barge inside by breaking open the gate locks or attack the guards if there are any before entering,” the DCP said. The huge quantities of aluminium, copper and brass are loaded into a vehicle and driven away.
The arrested - Sanjay Kumar Pande, Ajith Chowhan, Sesh Nadh Yadav, Santosh Rajbhar, Dablu Singh, Jalandar Chowhan, Subhash Rajbar and Sunil Chowhan - were remanded in judicial custody.
