Fortnight-long Swachtha Pakhwada in govt. schools

District Education Officer P. Rajeev formally launched the fortnight-long Swachtha Pakhwada programme at Government High School at Sapthagiri Colony in the town on Friday. With the objective to create awareness on the importance of cleanliness, sanitation and hygiene among schoolchildren, the district Education Department has taken up the initiative which would be on till September 15 in the district.

On the occasion, he administered a pledge to the students and teachers and empowered them on the importance of cleanliness at school, home and their surroundings to check the spread of various diseases.

As part of the fortnight-long event, the authorities would conduct awareness programmes for the students and their parents on September 4. The students would be asked to speak on sanitation and hygiene while they would also take part in quiz competitions. On September 6, the students and teachers would clean the school premises. On September 7, the teachers would educate the students on the importance of washing their hands properly before eating. On September 8, the authorities would make audio visual presentation on hygiene. On September 12, they would educate students on using a toilet in a hygienic manner.

The students would also be asked to write letters to the elected representatives and school management committees on proper maintenance of toilets.

MEO K. Chukka Reddy, headmistress G. Pramoda, teachers and others were also present.
