Attempts to find a solution to the Babri Masjid imbroglio through talks will not be acceptable. Those trying to do so are ‘traitors’ and would be exposed soon, said Majlis president, Asaduddin Owaisi.
He was speaking after releasing the book, Ayodhya controversy - myth or reality, written by Mohd Abdul Rahim Quraishi, assistant general secretary, All India Muslim Personal Law Board, here on Sunday evening.
The Allahabad High Court verdict in the title suit was given on the basis of astha (faith) and not evidence. Now some persons are trying to thrash out the matter through talks between the two communities which is simply not acceptable. Muslims do not expect justice and fair play in the Babri Masjid case from the present government, which had bestowed L.K. Advani with Padma Bhushan. Perhaps he was the first Padma awardee against whom criminal cases are pending, he said.
“The Babri Masjid case is not an issue of Muslims alone but one which has a direct bearing on justice,” Mr. Owaisi remarked.
Expenses for fighting the case shouldn’t be a problem as the Majlis would be ready to foot the charges for hiring the best of lawyers, Mr. Owaisi assured. He said the book gives a fitting reply to the Babri Masjid opponents as it documents facts.
Zafaryab Jeelani, Additional Advocate General, Uttar Pradesh, said it would be interesting to watch whether evidence would get precedence over faith in the Supreme Court before which the case is pending. If the government is serious about solving the issue, it should ask the apex court to hear the case on a day-to-day basis, Mr. Jeelanai said.
Two well known scholars, Moulana Khalid Saifullah Rahmani and Mufti Khaleel Ahmed explained how Islam did not permit ill-gotten money or a disputed place to be used for construction of mosque. They cited many examples to explain how it was impossible to even think of a temple being demolished for construction of mosque.
Congress MLC, Mohd Shabbir Ali, congratulated the author for writing the book covering all aspects of the issue. The book priced Rs. 250 was lapped up by people who gathered in good number.
