At first look, it seems like just another myriad ‘app’ – mobile applications that the youth of today seem to be oh!-so-obsessed with. And there ends the resemblance.

What we are talking about is Fan Station, an app that helps all those starry-eyed fans, geeks even, connect with their favourite actors. It was unveiled in a ‘soft launch’ in Visakhapatnam at the International Fleet Review in February.

It already has about 40,000 fans, of whom at least 10,000 are listed as monthly active users (MAU) and 1,500 daily active users (DAU), claims the team managing the app.

Fan Station is a brainchild of five classmates and a junior, all of them students of Gayathri Vidya Parishad in Visakhapatnam. They are Sai Prabhu Konchada, Amba Babjee, Krishna Kiran Kasturi, Rohini Kumar, Venkataramana, and Harika Bandaru.

On a shoe-string budget that includes individual contributions, Team Fan Station operates from the Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at the International Institute of Information Technology here.

Coming to what Fan Station calls a feather in its cap, the team managed to connect with none other than the elusive Pawan Kalyan while he was in London during a visit last month.

The star was there to attend a function organised by the United Kingdom Telugu Association, and thanks to some fast work by one Prasad Mantrala, one of the office-bearers, Mr. Kalyan found himself spending about 40 minutes fielding questions from his fans worldwide, with the live feed said to have been followed by a million-and-a-half fans!

Bolstered by the success they enjoyed, with Mr. Kalyan himself appreciating the app and its developers, the team is busy contacting other stars.

The next star with whom Fan Station connects with is Sai Dharam Tej, nephew of actor Chiranjeevi, and needless to say, Team Fan Station is very, very excited!

Incidentally, the ‘app’ is trending on Google Playstore and was in the ‘Top 50 social apps’ with an average rating of 4.9 out of 5.
