Six members of an attention diversion gang who allegedly committed thefts at jewellery shops in Hyderabad were nabbed by the city police on Wednesday. The police recovered 28 tolas of gold ornaments at their instance.
Presenting the accused persons at a press meet, DCP (West) V. Satyanarayana, said that the gang members, Zubeda Begum, Tahera Begum, Fareeda, Sabera, Mohd Azher Ali and Mohd Haneef visited prominent jewellery shops in guise of customers and decamped with gold ornaments by diverting the attention of the staff.
Zubeda and Tahera would visit jewellery the shop pretending to be buyers and rob jewellery items by diverting the attention of the salesmen while two other accomplices Fareeda and Sabera Begum would keep a watch on the other staff. Later, they would buy one item to avoid suspicion and go away in the auto rickshaws driven by Azher and Haneef, the official explained.
The gang members were involved in six different cases reported in Hyderabad in the last few months, he added. The gang members were caught after they committed theft at P. Satyanarayana jewellers at Mehdipatnam. The police collected the video footage recorded by the CCTV cameras installed in the shop and tracked them.
Two auto-rickshaw drivers arrested for snatching gold chains from women
In another case, the police caught two auto drivers who were allegedly involved in snatching of gold chains from women. The police recovered eight tolas of gold from them.
The arrested persons, Mohd Abdul Gaffer and Mohd Mehraj were involved in four chain snatching reported under the limits of Humayunnagar police station limits in last few months.
