State government and Tata Trust are set to join hands in setting up cancer screening centres across Telangana. Eight such centres are expected to come up.

The health and family welfare department release said Tata Trust is expected to install infrastructure for screening at four hospitals tied to medical colleges and three district hospitals.

These seven centres together will work under MNJ Cancer Hospital in Hyderabad, the eighth centre.

Telangana government had launched a pilot screening programme for non-communicable diseases, including cancer last year. According to data available at MNJ Cancer Hospitals, cancer incidence, particularly breast and cervical among women, is on the rise in the State.
