DMHO, assistant held on graft charge

Anti-Corruption Bureau officials on Wednesday arrested Ranga Reddy District Medical and Health Officer K. Sudhakar and Senior Assistant in his office, K. Ramesh, when he allegedly received Rs.40,000 bribe through the latter from Kamineni Life Service Company.

The tainted sum was recovered from meal plates in the ante-room of K. Sudhakar, a doctor, in his office at Serilingampally at the instance of Ramesh, ACB Deputy Superintendent of Police M. Prabhakar. The DMHO was accused of demanding bribe from the company to send a favourable report to Malkajgiri police pertaining to investigation into the company conducting diagnostic tests.

The investigation began when a person from Malkajgiri lodged a complaint with the local police in December, 2013 alleging that the company was conducting diagnostic tests at a centre in the area without obtaining the mandatory registration certificate from the Ranga Reddy DMHO. The centre affiliated to Kamineni Hospital replied that it was only collecting samples and sending them to the laboratory at the hospital’s unit in L.B. Nagar.

“The DMHO replied to Malkajgiri police that the centre had no registration certificate and issued notices to the hospital which eventually obtained one,” the DSP said. In continuation of the investigation, the police sought to know from the DMHO if the Kamineni centre in Malkajgiri was conducting any diagnostic tests there.

To send a favourable report to the police in this regard, the DMHO allegedly demanded bribe. When the complainant came to his office, he asked him to hand over the money to the Senior Assistant.
