Khammam Police Commissioner Tafseer Iqbal on Thursday conducted a survey at various residential areas in the town as part of the State-wide exercise aimed at creating a comprehensive database of habitual offenders, rowdy sheeters and others with criminal antecedents.

The police department has embarked on the exercise, named as “Sakala Nerasthula Samagra Survey”, to gather the details of persons with criminal record, including history-sheeters, for compiling a comprehensive database as part of a technology-aided crime prevention strategy, sources said.

The database would serve as a ready-reckoner to keep tab on the movement of criminal and anti-social elements, aid the police in tracking the offenders, preventing and detecting crimes.

Police teams fanned out to various parts of the district to accomplish the task.
