Hyderabad City Traffic Police on Sunday said they will be adopting the ‘PCTM ‘(Participative, Coordinated Traffic Management) model to ease the traffic in the city.
“With over 20 lakh vehicles plying on city roads daily, we will be adopting the ‘PCTM’ model to ensure a smoother flow of traffic to enable people to reach their destinations faster,” said C V Anand, who took over as new Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) recently.
Wrong, illegal parking of vehicles of main roads, encroachments, VIP convoys, agitations, rallies by various groups, haphazard digging of roads by several agencies and lack of anticipation and preparation by traffic officials have been identified as main obstructions to smooth flow of traffic, he said.
“We will take suggestions from all stakeholders of the society for traffic management besides it will be a coordinated effort with different departments,” Mr. Anand said.
Announcing his action plan for traffic management for next six months, senior traffic cop said it will be strict enforcement to check violators, special drives on various traffic offences besides usage of newer technology systems.
Constitution of Traffic advisory committees in six zones, involvement of NGOs, weekly meetings to review on the works undertaken also form part of the plan, he said.
Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) will take up Intelligent Traffic Management System in the city and Automated Traffic Red Light and Speed Violations Enforcement system will also be introduced at main junctions across the city, the senior Traffic official said.
“With poor traffic discipline among riders, we will also focus on creating awareness on traffic rules among public,” Mr. Anand said.
For complaints on any aspect of mis-behaviour, corruption, traffic jams and related issues, people can call on cell phone number 9010203626,” he added.
