Indian Government’s Chief Economic Adviser Arvind Subramanium has called for equitable distribution of subsidies among the weaker sections of society and similar other measures in order to empower them to join the mainstream as equal partners. India’s steady growth has resulted in a consistent decline in poverty along with improvement in a number of human development indices including decline in infant mortality rate. He said though income growth was significant across the country during the last three decades, the regional disparities continued unabated.

Delivering a lecture on India’s precocious growth model and its future’ as part of the 92nd Foundation Course for over 200 All India Services and Central Civil Services officers at Dr. MCR HRD Institute of Telangana here on Friday, he said India’s economic growth, within the framework of strong democratic institutions and political openness, was a great achievement. He hoped the development trajectory would continue till the latent growth potential of the country was fully tapped.

Lauding the improvements in the global ranking of India in terms of Ease of Doing Business, he called for concerted efforts to attract Foreign Direct Investment in health and education sectors, which were currently confined mainly to manufacturing and IT sectors. The strong emphasis on health and education would go a long way in giving a big boost to strengthening economic development coupled with social welfare.

He said an equi-focus on both services and manufacturing sectors alone would result in a well-rounded development of the country. Special Chief Secretary and MCR HRD Institute Director General B.P. Acharya and others officials attended.
