Banned Turkish currency exchange fraud unearthed

Two persons trying to pass off banned Turkish currency notes as genuine were arrested by the Musheerabad police on Saturday.

The accused T. Ratna Kumar, 55, and P. Ramakrishna, 34, West Godavari and Guntur districts respectively approached a person C. Vishwanath recently offering him Turkish currency.

They claimed the Turkish currency note was worth Rs. 10 lakh of Indian currency but offered it to him for Rs. 1 lakh.

Vishwanath paid them Rs. 20,000 but found it was banned currency note when he checked with foreign currency exchange rates, the police said.

The duo told the police that they secured the banned currency notes from one Laxman Rao in Palasa of Srikakulam district.
