A metropolitan court on Friday dismissed the bail application of singer Kesiraju Srinivas, popularly known as Ghazal Srinivas.

Srinivas was arrested by the Punjagutta police on Tuesday on the charge of sexual harassment levelled against him by a 29-year-old woman. He was produced in the court which remanded him in judicial custody and, since, he has been lodged in Chanchalguda prison.

On the bail plea moved by Srinivas, the court heard arguments on his behalf and the police who opposed the same on the ground that he can influence the victims and tamper with evidence. The court accepted the police apprehension and refused to grant bail.

“Presently, we are also verifying call data records of Ghazal Srinivas for further investigation into the case,” the police said.

Earlier, on Thursday, the court had rejected the four-day custody sought by the police to question Srinivas.

Meanwhile, members of the Ananda Lahari Cultural Organisation said Ghazal Srinivas had never respected women and should be punished severely.

Addressing a press conference here, convener of the organisation Mallam Ramesh said cultural artists of both Telugu states were condemning the sexual assault by Srinivas.

“We demand a thorough inquiry into issues,” he said.
