Former Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) president Arshad Ayub on Thursday demanded that an early annual general meeting of the body be convened “to ensure cricketers don’t suffer before the start of the next season”.
Mr. Arshad told reporters that he had written to the HCA top brass several times to convene the Annual General Meeting, which should have been called by the end of April.
“They say the AGM has to be put off because of the IPL. This is beyond logic as the HCA has very little role in the conduct of IPL matches except hiring the venue. The IPL teams take care of different subjects,” he pointed out, adding that the courts had also been approached on the matter.
“What also hurts is the series of violations of the HCA Constitution itself. The EC meetings, which should have been held every month, were held only 12 times in the last two years. The appointment of the Director of HCA Academy at Gymkhana was in violation of the AGM decision. We wonder if the HCA needs any Constitution itself when it doesn’t follow any rules and regulations,” he remarked.
The former India off-spinner also recalled irregularities in the selection of State teams last season, charging that the Hyderabad under-14 (B team) and the under-22 team were named without the knowledge of the then selection panel.
“As per the HCA Constitution, the president has to give his assent to the selection of all teams. I wonder whether the HCA president was aware of this or not,” he said. The ex-cricketer also claimed that the one-man-one-post is being violated.
