The three-day 42nd All India Railway Gymnastics Championships for Men & Women: 2012-13 was launched at the Multi-Purpose Indoor Stadium, Railway Sports Complex, Secunderabad on Tuesday.

V. Sri Hari, Principle Chief Engineer, South Central Railway declared the championships open.

Addressing the gymnasts from various railway zones, Mr. Hari exhorted them to display sportsmanship in the events. South Central Railway Sports Association (SCRSA) is organising the event under the auspices of Railway Sports Promotion Board, New Delhi. Seventy-five gymnasts from Seven Railway Zones viz. South Central Railway, Eastern Railway, Western Railway, South Eastern Railway, Southern Railway, Northern Railway and North Central Railway are competing in six events namely Floor, High Bar, Parallel Bar, Vault, Roman Rings and Pommel Horse.

Renowned gymnast and Arjuna Awardee Avinash Kumar of North Central Railway, Vijay Kumar of South Central Railway, Parto Mondol of Eastern Railway and other International and national players can be seen in action in these Championships. P.C. Gajbhiye, president SCRSA, K.V. Siva Prasad, General Secretary, SCRSA, Vikram Gupta, Secretary-Gymnastics, SCRSA also participated in the inaugural session, said a press release.
