LSN Foundation in association with other NGO's is organising a two-day Abilities Mela 2010 to provide employment opportunities for physically challenged persons at Sweekar Upkaar near Jubilee Bus station from June 12. The mela is open to all and would be conducted from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

This is the fourth edition of the mela and it is financially supported by Business Community Foundation. The objective of the mela is to provide a platform for differently abled persons to exhibit their skills and bag jobs.

This apart, products, including electronics, artificial limbs etc, manufactured by them would be put on exhibition-cum-sale, said LSN Foundation Executive trustee, Manjula. P, while addressing a press conference here on Monday. She informed that over 15 corporate companies are participating in the mela and over 25 stalls will be operated showcasing different products ranging from electronics to food. Last year, 53 physically challenged and hearing impaired persons were provided employment as telephone operators and executives in different BPO companies, she added.

This apart, seminars and workshops would be organised to familiarise physically challenged persons with latest technology that is available in the market. The seminars would highlight the need to ensure barrier-free environment for physically-challenged persons at malls, government offices, etc, she informed.

Cricketer V.V.S Laxman, who is supporting the mela, said the most important aspect of the mela is to market the products manufactured by differently-abled persons.
