Enquiry into the alleged ‘leakage’ of the EAMCET-II paper picked up pace with the police officials reportedly digging into the financial capabilities of the students in question. The EAMCET officials also provided more details about the students that may assist the police in its enquiry.

“We have provided all the details sought by the police, including their academic track record and performance in various other examinations,” said an official. Police may find it useful in solving the mystery and catch the culprits iF at all the allegations are true.

The EAMCET officials believe that variation in marks from EAMCET-I to EAMCET-II is a possibility due to several factors and cannot be attributed to only the ‘leakage’. Several candidates who got good marks in EAMCET-I performed poorly in EAMCET-II and vice versa. A senior official, however, admitted that the only factor that raises suspicion is that the huge variation in the marks of the students in question. One student got 43 more marks while another got 32 more marks in EAMCET-II.

The student who secured 295 rank in EAMCET-II secured 9,288 rank in EAMCET-I. She scored 109 in the first exam while her score was 141 in the second exam. Her group total in Intermediate was 573 marks with 95 percentage over all.

The second student in question secured 17,131 in the first exam, while secured 704 rank in EAMCET-II. Her score increased from 91 marks in the first exam to 134 in the second exam. She secured 566 marks in subject group in Intermediate and registered 94.6 per cent over all.

Another factor that led to suspicion was their nativity and they both belong to the same village in Warangal district.

Allegations of leakage of medical paper are not new and in fact, on two occasions earlier, such allegations proved to be right though it turned out to be wrong on several other occasions.

In the late 80s, the convenor of the exam was arrested after it was proved that the paper was leaked to benefit his daughter and children of few other friends. After a few years, the exam was rocked again by allegations of leakage and it turned out to be true with the arrest of an employee of the printing centre in West Bengal.

Officials say the new norms of secrecy are so stringent that even the Convenor will not know the exact location of the printing centre, except the printer.

Police is expected to complete the enquiry within a couple of days as the counselling for medical courses is scheduled to begin on July 25.
