Harish Rao suggests taking police’s help in acquiring land

Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao on Wednesday suggested officials to take the help of police in acquiring land for Kumram Bheem project canals in Kumram Bheem Asifabad district. The suggestion came in the wake of officials expressing inability to acquire 400 acres of land to dig right and left canals of the project and realise its ayacut.

The Minister reviewed progress of the project during his visit to the district. He asked officials to pay compensation as per the Land Acquisition Act, 2013.

Mr. Harish Rao criticised the Congress party for seeking court intervention in implementation of GO 123 meant for acquiring land for projects. He said the move of the Opposition party has resulted in farmers losing in terms of compensation.

Meanwhile, the Minister sanctioned a lift irrigation scheme for Ponkal village in Mamda mandal of Nirmal district where he had laid foundation stone for a barrage across river Godavari. He said the barrage would not only stabilise the ayacut of Sadarmat anicut, but would help in irrigating an additional 8,000 acres in Khanapur.

Earlier, Mr. Harish Rao inaugurated a dal mill at Wankidi in KB Asifabad district. Housing Minister A. Indrakaran Reddy, MLAs Rekha Naik of Khanapur, G. Vittal Reddy of Mudhole, Kova Laxmi of Asifabad and K. Vidyasagar Rao of Metpally attended among others.
