A woman who had moved to the Capital from Mumbai a few months ago has alleged that she was locked up in a flat in Old Rajender Nagar and gang-raped by two men on Thursday night.

The woman also alleged that she was forced to indulge in unnatural sex, because of which she sustained injuries to her private parts.

DCP (Central) Parmaditya said the police had registered a case and arrested one of the accused — Manish — who is a contractor with the MCD.

The other accused, who is absconding, is believed to be an executive engineer with the MCD.

The woman, who lived with a female flatmate in Safdarjung, told the police in her complaint, a copy of which is with The Hindu , that she had befriended Manish on Facebook.

When their friendship strengthened over social media, Manish allegedly proposed marriage and asked her to move to Delhi.

Manish had allegedly called her to his Old Rajender Nagar flat on Thursday on the pretext of discussing their marriage plans as she had been pressurising him.

It was while she was at the flat that Manish’s friend arrived and allegedly tried to force himself on her. “When the woman protested and complained to Manish, the contractor verbally abused her and forced her to consume alcohol,” said a police officer.

The duo then allegedly took turns to rape her before she managed to escape and contact the police. When a police team arrived, they found her in an inebriated condition. She was then sent for a medical examination and treatment, after which a case was registered. The woman will now be offered counselling by an NGO.
