Delhi International Airport Limited and IT major Wipro have announced a ten-year total outsourcing agreement to provide world-class IT infrastructure and services at Indira Gandhi International Airport here.
The two parties signed an agreement to form a joint venture to be named “Wipro Airport IT Services Limited” in which Wipro will have a 74 per cent stake while DIAL will hold 26 per cent.
The agreement was signed by DIAL Chief Executive Officer P. S. Nair and Wipro’s senior vice-president and business head of India and Middle East Anand Sankaran.
The joint venture will be the innovation partner for DIAL and will focus on emerging business models and technologies for airports. It will also build up competencies in airport-specific applications.
“Information Technology is a key driver for critical airport operations, including flight management, terminal management, ground handling and property management. The total outsourcing engagement will deliver business IT alignment for DIAL by combining leading airport solutions with Wipro’s strong practices of governance, process excellence and integrated service delivery,” said a DIAL official.
Wipro is responsible for complete IT management at Delhi airport’s under-construction Terminal 3 for ten years. This includes airport-specific applications, data centre, networks, security and surveillance systems and end-user systems.
The integrated new Terminal 3 will be the gateway for the Commonwealth Games scheduled to be held in the Capital next year.
“Additionally Wipro will be responsible for managing a host of intelligent systems including building management systems, access control, public address and telephony. For passengers, this engagement will deliver superior customer experience and for airlines it will deliver fast efficient systems which enable quicker turnaround times,” the official added.
The partnership was decided as an outcome of a global competitive bidding process where Wipro emerged as the preferred partner for the outsourcing deal.
The chairman of Airports of GMR Group, Kiran Kumar Grandhi, and the joint CEO and member of the Board of Wipro Limited, Suresh Vaswani, were also present at the agreement signing ceremony.
