: The AAP government has assured the Delhi High Court that it will consider giving exemption to the Capital’s lawyers from the odd-even scheme if it is implemented again.
Rajiv Khosla, president of the Delhi High Court Bar Association, had submitted a petition in the High Court seeking such an exemption.
Subsequently, the court had on Monday asked the Delhi government to respond as to whether there was any possibility of exempting lawyers for the remaining period of the scheme which will come to an end on April 30.
On Tuesday, the government’s Senior Standing Counsel Rahul Mehra submitted before a Division Bench of Chief Justice G. Rohini and Justice Jayant Nath that the government would look into Mr. Khosla’s plea if he took up the issue again.
Mr. Khosla had also sought exemption from the imposition of Rs. 2,000 as fine in case of any violations without amendments to the Motor Vehicles Act.
The Bench also observed that many people are facing inconvenience due to the odd-even scheme, even Parliamentarians.
The government had in an affidavit said that the rule was introduced in view of dangerous levels of pollution which have plagued the NCR.
